The updated version of Adobe Premiere Pro has arrived! Now with a series of tools that support Virtual Reality (VR) videos, the popular editing software has also gained mechanisms that make it easier to import media. Now, images captured not only by Red Epic 5K and Red Scarlet-X can be loaded with the editor: Red Weapon 8K, Red Raven and DJI X5, used by drones, can also submit their recordings to the effects of the program.

There are at least three major changes accompanying the update: it has made it even easier to work with proxy media, color-editing palette improvements have been made, and tools dedicated to VR clips are available to the user. Plugins developed by Adobe partner developers, automatic downloading of images or videos from Adobe Stock and the ability to pre-set preferences for imported files are other highlights.

Presets and configuration of proxy media

When you create a project, you can now set the settings that should be applied to any imported media beforehand. You can create a copy of the videos, convert them to a new format, or attach a proxy to each clip, which is nothing more than a low-resolution video based on the original media intended for manipulation through editing tools - this feature is valuable to anyone who wants to render videos faster, since changes applied to proxy can also be assigned to RAW files.

You can still import saved presets from Creative Cloud, but another of the highlights is the suggestion of projects appropriate to the user's hardware and video type used, for example. The fact is that, in cases where proxy templates are created, a smart distinction system will apply editing effects only on duplicate files without compromising the original media.

Thinking about optimizing performance and enhancing the technical settings of each computer, the updated version of Adobe Premiere Pro also terminates background processes at the time that proxy editions are being made. To view the original copies or media, the "Proxy" button can be accessed from the toolbar, displayed below the monitor.

Automatic download of Adobe Stock Media

Another implementation concerns the integration between Premiere Pro and Stock services: When searching for keywords, which allows searching for filters based on file type, the automatic download of a video, for example, can be done. It will then suffice to drag it up to the timeline to add it to the project.

More color editing features

At the request of a multitude of users, Adobe has also enhanced color editing capabilities. In practice, it became easier to select individual colors or groups of colors for isolated modification. Simply access the new Limetri HSL service, set the tones that should be changed and do the editing.

There have also been changes in the Tere Scopes: tones can be viewed and worked in high or low resolution, while still allowing the intensity adjustment - with the right brightness control through the new Wreck 2020 feature.

Virtual Reality (VR) video editing

Another great improvement is also the native support for echo-rectangular videos (a file type created by software for joining the captures made by VR recording cameras). While allowing traditional, rectangular view of the desktop, Adobe Premiere Pro supports a viewing mode that does not resemble the screen of glasses that display VR content.

Edits are applied in real time on the media and can be viewed from click on the monitor - click, hold and drag to simulate the gyro movement. Plugins developed by Adobe partners can also be used: transition effects, for example, are now available to the user.

Open Capture Support

Similar to captions, Open Capture has been added to the editor's capture options. This function, unlike Closed Capture, is not restricted to the type of device used by the viewer (such as TV or mobile): edit the font size, style and color, and export the texts to any compatible services. Manipulating Open Capture is easy as you just copy and paste the speech that should be displayed by the video, and then set the start and end times for the line.

It's worth noting that, as in its previous versions, Adobe Premiere Pro tools are meant for professional video editing.

Attaching images or videos downloaded from Adobe Stock is easy as you simply search for the type of media you want and then start to download the file automatically - select the clip and drag it to your timeline to continue editing.

Improved color editing features

With robust tools as part of its color modification palette, Adobe Premiere Pro was also awarded the Lumetri HSL.

In practice, it means that it is possible to select a color or a certain tone and thus make changes. Subtle changes or even the creation of effects that must act on certain colors can be easily adjusted from an interface already familiar to users accustomed to the tools of the editor.

Support for new cameras and VR technologies

The new version of Adobe Premiere Pro supports the Red Weapon 8K, Red Raven and DJI X5 cameras, used by drones. In addition, media generated by equipment dedicated to capturing VR videos can also be edited using native software tools.

It is worth noting that most of the effects can not yet be applied to VR clips, which may displease editors who seek to transitions between scenes from 360-degree scenarios, for example.
